Library Cards

Library cards are free.   A United States photo ID is required for adults when the card application is completed.  Minors may require a parent's or guardian's signature on their application. Please notify the library staff with a change in name, address or telephone.

Library Collections


The children's section include hard cover fiction and nonfiction books as well as a paperback collection.  There are audio books and videos.  The reference section includes encyclopedias, dictionaries, atlases, biographical materials and other helpful children's literature resources.  The computer lab provides 16 computers.

The adult collection includes a wide variety of educational and recreational materials both in print and in various media formats. Newspapers include: "Oakland Independent", "Burt County Plaindealer", "Lyons Mirror Sun", "West Point News" and the "Omaha World Herald".

There are a wide variety of news and general interest magazines.  As well as; access to downloadable audio books and eBooks through Overdrive and online databases through NebraskAccess.

Lamination

A laminating machine is available at the library. The cost is one dollar a running foot. Materials up to 23 inches wide will fit through the machine. 

Genealogy

The library has two microfilm readers. The newest reader is a state of the art digital reader and is equipped with a laser printer. Copies from this new machine are 25 cents per page. The library has microfilm of the Oakland newspapers dating from 1881 to 2001.  Or view online at

Photocopies

A photocopier is available for public use. A donation of 25 cents per page b&w or 50 cents per color page.

Fax 

Faxes may be sent or received with a dollar per page donation. 


Public Access Computers

The library has computers available for public use. Computers feature a wide range of software as well as the library's online catalog, the Internet, a word processor and spreadsheet. Two computers feature scanners. An ADA computer is available as well. There is no charge to use the computers. Printing is available at 25 cents a page. Patrons must sign up at the front desk for a time on the computers. Children under 14 years of age must have be accompanied by a parent or guardian before they will be allowed to access the Internet. A thirty minute time limit will only be enforced when other patrons are waiting to use the computers.

Wi-Fi

The library offers wireless internet accessible to library patrons inside and outside the library.

Story time

Preschool Story Time is offered Tuesdays at 10 Am (during the school year and during the month of July)

Scrap booking

Scrap booking @ the library is held the third Thursday of the month from 6 to 10 pm.  Due to limited space, advance reservation is required.

Book Clubs

The library hosts two book clubs; an  Afternoon Book Club on the 1st Tuesday at 2 pm. and an Evening Book Club on the 3rd Monday at 5:30 pm.

Inter library Loans
Inter library loan allows patrons to borrow materials that belong to other libraries across the United States. The charge for borrowing is minimal--postage one way. Due dates are usually a month but will vary between libraries. When renewing materials please contact the library several days prior to due date.
